Periyar

Alongside the river Periyar, in Kerala, this is a well-liked wild life sanctuary scattering over an area of about 780 square kilometers. Situated in the high ranges of high Western Ghats, this lush green forest of Periyar centers round a lovely lake. Jungle safaris in Periyar are done by boat only. In the peaceful environs, the forest comes alive to the symphony of crickets, frogs and birds.

A large amount of wild birds and animals that dwell in the dense jungles are the main tourist attractions in Periyar. Frequently seen wild animals in Periyar include: Elephants, Gaur, Wild Pigs, Sambar, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer and Dole or Indian Wild Dog. Lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri Langur, ordinary Langur and Bonnet Macaque are also found in the forest of Periyar. Enormous number of elephants lives in in Periyar
